Course Overview
Neuroscience is a broad area of inquiry, with research ranging in focus from the molecular and cellular to the behavioral and cognitive, and, increasingly, an emphasis on understanding the interactions between different levels of organization. The Principles of Neuroscience course is intended to introduce students to some of the diverse and complementary approaches employed by modern neuroscientists. In twice-weekly meetings, faculty from the Yale neuroscience community will present current research from their own areas of expertise. These discussion-based seminars will expose students to the insights, methods, and questions specific to particular areas of investigation and technical approaches. As the semester progresses, students will gain a broader view of the way in which questions and advances from one field of neuroscience often overlap with or inform other fields.
